Free Online Time Zone Converter

Convert any date and time between two time zones instantly. Pick a from-zone and to-zone from 23 common world cities (plus UTC), enter the time, and the tool shows the converted time in both — automatically accounting for daylight saving time. A live world-clock grid below shows the current time in every supported zone.

How to Use the Time Zone Converter

Type or pick the date and time you want to convert (defaults to "now"). Choose the From zone — defaults to your browser's local zone — and the To zone you want to know about. The two cards update instantly with the converted time, day of week, and full date. Use the ⇆ Swap button to reverse direction.

How Time Zones Work

Earth's 24 hours of rotation is divided into 24 time zones, each roughly 15° of longitude wide. Each zone is described by its offset from UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) — the modern replacement for GMT. For example, Eastern Time (New York) is UTC−05:00 in winter and UTC−04:00 in summer (because of daylight saving time). India Standard Time is UTC+05:30 year-round (no DST).

Daylight Saving Time (DST) — Why Conversions Get Tricky

About 70 countries observe DST, shifting their clock forward 1 hour in spring and back in fall. The dates differ: the US/Canada switch on the 2nd Sunday of March and 1st Sunday of November; the EU/UK switch on the last Sunday of March and October. During the transition weeks the same wall-clock time can be 4 or 5 hours apart depending on what side of the change each zone is on. This tool reads each zone's current DST state automatically.

Common Time Zone Differences (year-round, ignoring DST shifts)

  • New York → London: +5 hours
  • Los Angeles → New York: +3 hours
  • London → Dubai: +4 hours
  • London → New Delhi: +5:30
  • London → Singapore: +8 hours
  • London → Tokyo: +9 hours
  • New York → Tokyo: +14 hours (next day for most of the day)
  • UTC → New Delhi: +5:30

Use Cases for the Time Zone Converter

  • Scheduling meetings across continents
  • Picking the best time to call family abroad
  • Booking flights — figuring out when you'll land in local time
  • Watching live sports / streams from another country
  • Coordinating online game raids with international guilds
  • Trading hours — knowing when New York / London / Tokyo markets are open

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this handle daylight saving time?

Yes — the tool uses your browser's built-in time-zone database (via the Intl API), which knows when each zone observes DST. The converted time accounts for whatever DST rule is active on the date you enter, not just today.

Why does my converted time look "off by one day"?

Time zones can span the International Date Line. New York to Tokyo, for example, is +14 hours — so 8 PM Monday in NYC = 10 AM Tuesday in Tokyo. The result card shows the full date so you can spot day rollovers.

What time zone codes do you support?

The tool uses IANA time zone names (like America/New_York, Europe/London, Asia/Kolkata). The dropdown shows 23 common cities; you can add others by editing the source if you need niche zones.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. All conversions happen in your browser using the Intl API. Nothing is uploaded.
